COMPAGNIA ATERBALLETTO is the principal Dance Company for production and distribution in Italy and the first permanent ballet producing body apart from Opera House companies.
Since 1997 the Artistic Direction is entrusted to MAURO BIGONZETTI, who started and developed his career as performer and choreographer with Aterballetto, from 1982 to 1993, standing out as one of the main soloists and accomplishing his first choreographic experiences that have led him to develop collaborations with the most prestigious International Companies.
At present the repertoire of Compagnia Aterballetto is composed of choreographies by Mauro Bigonzetti, Michele Abbondanza and Antonella Bertoni, Itzik Galili, and by young European choreographers, but also includes ballets by artist of international choreography such as William Forsythe and Jiri Kylian.
Founded in 1979, in almost 20 years of artistic direction by Amedeo Amodio (until 1996) Aterballetto built up an important repertoire including works of Amedeo Amodio and of major international choreographers such as Glen Tetley, Alvin Ailey, Lucinda Childs, and included the performing rights for major productions in the heritage of XX Century Dance History signed by George Balanchine, Kenneth Mc Millan, Antony Tudor, Josè Limon, Hans Van Manen, Leonide Massine, David Parsons and Maurice Béjart.
The Foundation gathers some of the most meaningful experiences developed in the field of dance, not only at a regional level but also at a national level, making it unique in Italy: experiences such as organizing the Professional Training Course for Young Dancers, ballet performances and festivals and a variety of projects promoting wider public interest and awareness of the world of dance.
